Hi,

I am havibg trouble installing MySQL Windows essentials 5  on WinXP SP2. When I get to the end of the instance configurarion wizzard it gives me "The service could not be started. Error:0". If I try to start the service manually from the services.msc it gives me "Could not start the MySQL service on local computer. Error 1067. The [rocess terminated unexpectedly".

I tried uninstalling MySQL, deleting folders, registry entries, deleting the service using "sc delete", but always get the same error.

I tried installing the gui tools and if I try to start Mysql through there I get the following in the log:

" Trying to start the server ...
Server could not be started.

Default storage engine (InnoDB) is not available

Aborting

C:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt: Shutdown complete "

Uninstalling MySQL does not delete the old Data folder. Try this:

(1) Uninstall MySQL.
(2) Search for the MySQL\Data folder and delete it.
(3) Re-install.

I think it will work.

I did delete the folder manually when uninstaling, but did not help. Here is what the err log reads:

From the error log it seems

OS error code   9:  Bad file descriptor

Seems the innodb data file/log file has issues... can you please post innodb specific settings from my.ini.

Also if you don't want to use InnoDB engine then just change default engine type from Innodb to myisam

OK, here is the deal - I was installing "windows essentias", which does not have the inno db, when I should have been using the normal version. Thanks for all your comments!
