getting error on crystal report (DISP_E_BADINDEX)

trying to set parameter value for report using

rptLoad(rptPath)    ' path has been set correctly
rpt.setparametervalue("{policyno}", policyno)

On Setparametervalue line" I get error

error on report: Invalid Index. (Exception from HRESULT: ox8002000B (DISP_E_BADINDEX)

rpt.setparametervalue("policyno", policyno)

or

rpt.setparametervalue("{?policyno}", policyno)
