how to analysis trace table data before and after table rebuild index

hi,
i have 4 tables with data before rebuild index and after rebuid index of 2 table each.
i named tables as bad1, bad2,  good1 and good2.
obviously the performance increased after rebuild index with dbreindex
how can i know what is eaxtly happened after rebiulding index
how i can analysis data to know the reasons
i am using standard edition 2005

to see indexers fragmentation.. before and after try to use
sql server 2005 sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats
2000/2005
dbcc showcontig
 check
