I have two movie clips. One sits on the main page while the other is created at runtime.  The movie clip that's created at runtime sits ontop of the movie clip on the main page.  The movie clip on the main page has a combo and data box that are selectable.  The user is able to select those items even when the movie clip created at runtime is active.  How can I disable the movie clip on the main page, but still visible while the other movie clip is active?

you should be able to disable/enable any movieClip using following function

this function takes two parameters,
1) reference of the movieClip which has to be enabled or disabled.
2) pass second parameter as true, if want to enable the movieClip or set it false if want to disable the movieClip

sample call to disable the movieClip, assuming movieClip instance name is "myMovie"

MovieClipEnable(myMovie,false);

sample code to enable:

MovieClipEnable(myMovie,true);

function MovieClipEnable(mc:MovieClip, bool:Boolean) {

	if (bool == false) {

		mc.onRollOver = function() {

		};

		mc.useHandCursor = false;

		mc._alpha = 30;

	} else {

		delete mc.onRollOver;

		mc._alpha = 100;

	}

}
