How to determine USB cable speed with Canon Scanner Lide 50?

We have a Canon Lide 50 scanner with the cable, but no documentation.  When scanning a picture, It seems to go fairly slow.  Is this a function of it being an older scanner, or does it have something to do with the speed of the USB cable?  I looked at some old postings here about determine the USB speed (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000602.htm), but can't figure it out and am not sure if that's even related to the slow scanning issue.  The computer is brand new.   Any ideas?

the speed of the usb depends on the usb controller.
It can be on-board - then it is the speed as listed for your motherboard.
But you can use a PCI to usb adapter card, and have usb 2 on a PC with usb 1
the scanning going slow, imho has nothing to do with USB speed, only copying from the scanner to pc will be slower
USB1 = 12MB sec   ---USB 2 =480 MB sec

btw - you can verify which you have in device manager, open the usb section and look for the word "enhanced" === USB 2  ---if not, you have usb 1
