Hello, I have a client who is attempting to download the auto updates for windows and it keeps bombing on Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109). It's getting to be very annoying for the client. I have also tried downloading the fix and installing it manually but it still fails. I even tried adding the update to the ignore list but auto update continues to remind me about it.

Try and execute the fix manually, but use 'run as' with the user and credentials of the service account for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER).

It is logging on as Network Service. I'm not sure of the credentials for this account.

Yes, SQL Express is the only version running on my PC. This is the exact patch that I downloaded (the patch the last poster mentions in the link you supplied). When I run it, I don't have the ability to uncheck SQL Express since Express is the only instance of SQL on the machine .

Look at this document:

Under quote: 'Note: To upgrade SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, obtain the SP2 ...'
From here you can download the SP2 version for SQL Server Express Edition, this would do the trick I presume.
