Backup exec not sending notifications

Backup exec is not sending notifications.
It used to..
recent changes
added appriver as a smart host
we used to have web emails through hostway that I deleted since a spammer got a password and was relaying spam from a users account.

we have a sbs 03 with exchange running.

Have you added the backup exec server's address to allow message relay?

backup exec is on the same server as exchange

I just noticed that SBS is also not sending alerts also...

OK - in exchange system manager have you added your domain name to relay permissions?
(presumably the alerts will be coming from something like "administrator at domainname")
