Problem: Users can't access company website.

There seems to be a conflict, the local domain name for the network is company.com, matching the company website public domain name that is hosted externally. Users can't access the company website

Add a DNS A record in the internal DNS server for "www" with the IP address of the website.

This is most likely because you have  a webserver configured with a private IP address, and you have a firewall that is providing NAT for that webserver, and in your Public DNS  you have the public IP address for www.mydomain.com.
When you clients are trying to go to www.mydomain.com they are being passed to your external dns which is returning the public IP address of your web server which you can not get too...
so the fix, is on your internal DNS server create a record for www.mydomain.com and point that to your private webserver address.  You should get to your webserver from internal boxes then.
