Thank you for your help!

How do I install the Hyper-V management console only (not the Hyper-V Role) onto a Server 2008 box that cannot run the Hyper-V role? I have a Server 2008 x64 box that is not capable of hosting the Hyper-V role, however I would like to install the Hyper-V managment console and use it to manage other servers running Hyper-V.

Vista SP1 allows this, but I cannot find how to do this in Server 2008.

Thank you,

You should be able to add it in the following location.

Add a feature > Remote Server Administration Tools > Role Administration Tools > Hyper-V Tools

You may need to have Microsoft KB950050 on the system (RTM update for Hyper-V) - not sure about that one though.

I just confirmed that you will need KB950050 - see below for information from the KB article:

"
Update for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition (KB950050)
This 64-bit update package includes the release version of the following:
" Hyper-V technology
" The Hyper-V Manager console    <<<<<<

Thank You! This is exactly the help I needed!
In my case KB 950050 was not needed. I downloaded the update, and upon installation it reported it as not needed.
Again, Thanks!
