LockWindowUpdate with bitmap

Experts,

I'm using the LockWindowUpdate method to prevent the screen from blinking each time controls are updated.  This works fine, however when I add a bitmap image to the background property of my main TableLayoutPanel, it starts blinking again, and for a small period the background colour of the control behind it is visible.

I do not know how to prevent this.  My program requires a background image as it is used in a office display.
