depends how you want to go about it. There is no save to CDR option in AI, but he could save it as Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file which Corel Draw can open.

Alternatively if you have CD x4 this should open native AI files.

I will give the SVG file a shot. I am currently using Coral 10.  Should that be an issue?? - Can Illustrator also export to a microsfe PUBLISHER file Format??

Not as a pub format, no. You would also need an intermediary format. At this stage SVG is your best option.
