Outlook 2003 sending multiple emails of the same email

On a few occasions, Outlook 2003 will send one email but show up on other peoples Outlook as multiple emails (2 or 3 of the same email sent at the same time).  Sometimes the email is sent to a dist. group, other times it's sent to a single user internally (not sure about external users).  Shows up as multiple emails on a few users Outlook so I know it's not an issue on the receiving end since it's happening to multiple users.

Any ideas?  Don't even know where to start with this one.  Thanks in advance!

Hello vianceadmin,

Check if the email is stuck in Outbox when you send duplicates.

Antivirus software, specailly Norton AV, can cause sending of duplicate emails. Disable antivirus check of outgoing mail and test.

Hope this helps!

Might be stuck in the outbox, not sure.  Even if it was, why would that cause multiple emails to be sent.  Seems like it would just stay in the outbox until a connection to the exchange server would be made and then it would be sent.

We're running Symantec AV so I'm not sure that would be causing an issue.  As far as I know, this is only happening when one user sends emails.  Not happening to everyone.  But the duplicate emails show up on multiple machines.

No rules setup in his Outlook.  Nothing unusual about his AD account...

vianceadmin,

If email is stuck in Outbox, Outlook would be trying to send it multiple times to try to complete the task.

Disable antivirus check of outgoing email and test.

Check if your user uses a blackberry.

I have seen in the past with users with blackberry can cause it.

Many times this is because there are more than one outlook.exe running on the users computer.   (Often unknown to the user!)
If you change all the shortcuts to use the /recycle switch, the user will not be able to open more than one instance of Outlook.  Anyone can open another instance of outlook by typing outlook.exe from run or a bad shortcut.  These will cause the multiple e-mails, etc.

At the root of the problem is that Outlook may have and addin that is causing a conflict.  We had problems with the iTunes calender add in and a fax service addin.  There is a list of the programs here:

I deleted the outlook profile and recreated a new one - haven't seen the issue again.
