IBM R52 TouchPad not visable in system

I bought a leased IBM ThinkPad R52 running XP, which was supposed to be user ready on arrival. However the TouchPad does not work at all, the TouchStick and a USB mouse do. No device driver is shown, I tried to install the UltraNav driver files from Lenovo but they won't install. The info file says the Touch Pad should first  be working as a standard mouse first, before installing UltraNav. I also installed all the Lenovo update files with no improvement.

The TouchPad does not show up in the hardware list, should it?
The mouse setup screen has a tab for the TouchStick, but not the pad. Is  this a software issue, or is the TouchPad not working? I don't know how to tell.

Please advise, thank you.

mgonullu:  Thank you. In the question I stated that I had tried to install the Lenovo utility with no success.

I'm returning the computer, so no further help is needed.
