I can't install uphclean, I get the error "another installation in process"

I'm trying to install uphclean 2.0 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 x63 system. When I launch the msi I get the following error "another installation in process". A reboot, shutdown, and yelling at the server did not help. :)

Any advice?

Try this, Go to......

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer.

Delete the InProgress subkey.

I just checked that and there is no "inProgress" subkey under that path.

orangutang,
None of the options on that page helped. I cant install any of the untilities or use "regserver" becuase I get the folowwoing error "Error 1500: Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one."
I even tried using msizap.exe and does not clear it up.

Have you tried opening the task manager and closing msiexec.exe or stopping the service in services.msc?

Why spend so long doing email signature updates?

Do you spend loads of your time carrying out email signature updates? Not very interesting are they? Don’t let signature updates get you down. Let Exclaimer Cloud - Signatures for Office 365 make managing email signatures a breeze.

I killed all instances of msiexec in task manager but I cannot stop the service in services.msc. The option to stop/start is grayed out

Is version 2.0 of UPHClean (User Profile Hive Cleanup Service) a public release now or still a Beta Version as it has been for the last 2.5 years?
All I can find to download and examine is version 1.6D : http://tinyurl.com/495ga

If not, then there seem to be a few different people working on their own unofficial version 2.0 releases to address the 64-bit limitation of version 1.6d.

The "official" Beta appears to be here:
http://blogs.technet.com/uphclean/pages/uphclean-v2-0-build-2-0-49-0-beta-for-64-bit-platform-operating-system.aspx

The author states that the release to which that October 31st 2008 version applies was an update to address "machine hangs and crashes that could occur with build 2.0.48.0".

Could it be that you have the buggy version?

BillDL,
I've successfully installed the 2.0 version on other TS servers. The problem I'm having is with the actual install not the operation. The link you posted only has a 32-bit version. y server is 64-bit.

If the actual *.msi download is a 32-bit version, then I apologise, but it clearly states:

"UPHClean v2.0 build 2.0.49.0 (beta) for 64 bit platform operating system".
"In the attachment below you will find the UPHClean v2.0 beta bits for operating system running on 64 bit platform (AMD or Intel x64 -- not Intel Itanium)."

If you are referring to my "tinyurl" link, then yes, that is to a 32-bit version because version 1.6d did not support 64-bit, hence my next paragraph.

Anyway, that's insignificant in view of your explanation.  It was just a thought when I read about the bugs in that one version.

I'm afraid that I can't suggest anything else other than what would have been my first instinct as already suggested by orangutan.

Try this...

Start task manager >> Processes tab >> Kill all msiexec.exe processes.
