Perhaps the RFC might help.  Search for "hash" and check Section 4.8.1.

Are you experiencing an issue or just looking for some insight into WCCP?

no issue, just looking to avoid issues before we put it in to production. Our routers are using hsrp.  I'm updating from my phone, I'll read over the doc when I get back to the office Monday. Thank you

I've dealt with WCCP quite a bit with Blue Coat proxies.  On your WCCP client (cache engine), you can't specify the HSRP address as the "WCCP home router".  You need to specify two WCCP home routers (both switches in the HSRP pair) using their real interface IP addresses.
