How to use UnifiedPOS in Adobe AIR?

I'm looking into developing a POS application in Adobe AIR and I'm concerned about hardware interaction. Has anyone tried to do this? Does anyone know if there is a project started to implement UnifiedPOS mappings for the AIR runtime? Any guidance on this would be appreciated.
