Cannot Update VirusDefs (even manually)

We have Symantec System Center (corp edition).

We have a couple of infected machines that have outdated Virus Defs (which I am assuming is a Virus).  I cannot get the VirusDefs updated (they are 3 months old) via LiveUpdate.   I cannot push them from the server.    LiveUpdate will not run in SafeMode.

I am not sure what else to try.

Can someone help a novice get these VirusDefs Updated?

The best way would be to full the hard drive and place into another machine that is up to date. If that is not possible run something like combofix that will kill all of the processes.

I uninstalled Symantec and reinstalled to get updates to work.   that fixed the problem.
