e-repository and task monitor in iScala 2.3

I am using Windows XP SP2. I cannot open certain features of iScala 2.3. These are e-repository and task monitor. Both are usually configured using DCom but when I try to use DCOM to configure it, my computer freezes and asks me if i would like to send an error report. In Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Component Services\Computers, firstly the My computer tab is not even displayed except in the root menu. So i right click it and click properties and go through the attached file to make sure that all of my settings are the same. When I get up to changing default properties and changing the default authentication level to Connect and the Default Impersonation level to identify, my computer freezes and asks me if I would like to send an error report.

IIS (Internet Information Services) has not been working properly since installation on this computer. My colleagues and I had figured out how to fix the iScala problem using IIS: My Computer \ Manage\ Internet Information Service\Web Service Extensions\ASP.NET V1.1.4322 - change status to Allowed. I have tried using this method but I do not have the required "Web Service Extensions" folder. I should be able to add or remove windows components but all components are added in the IIS folder and I still do not have Web Service Extensions.

Thanks in Advance,
AJS

sounds like dcom or access to it is busted. do you see a little "my computer icon" when drilling down to component services > computers, to the right in the icon bar row below the menu row?

"IIS (Internet Information Services) has not been working properly since installation on this computer." -  happens a lot when preinstalled images are in use, or if updates are predownloaded and not updated from ms update directly.

"I should be able to add or remove windows components but all components are added in the IIS folder and I still do not have Web Service Extensions." - was there an asp .net tab in the properties window of the websites in iis prior to iscala installation?

and which version of iscala 2.3 is it?

my bet for this part "I still do not have Web Service Extensions" - you will not have those in xp, only in win2k3

I have a "Configure my computer" icon but when i click on it, it comes up with two tabs only "MSDTC" and "COM Security"

It is the service release type, version 2.03.3363

I am not sure if there was an asp.net tab in the properties window of the websites in iis prior to installation.

Is there any other way to change asp.net settings if i do have xp as opposed to win2k3?

Thanks,
AJS

"it comes up with two tabs only "MSDTC" and "COM Security"" - yeah sounds like a problem, go to com security, and under all 4 buttons uncheck & check back all checkboxes which assign rights for all accounts, this should restore corrupt acl's to dcom. Upon reboot you should be able to see all the tabs in dcomcnfg. If it didn't work out most likely you will need to do an inplace reinstall of xp, as in xp there is no way i'm aware of to reinstall com components/catalog.

As far as asp.net tab in sites properties of iis - it has to exist for service connect to work, ms kb's have the instructions on command line, if i recall right it is aspnet_regiis.exe -i -enable or something like this.

In general however - you are better off keeping a virtual machine with win2k3 for iscala.
