Hyper V - Cant connect to hyper v box using hyper v manager

Hi

I cant connect to hyper v box using hyper v manager i keep getting a red x over the server on the left part of the scree yet i am using the right username and password 100%

i have ran this comand to allow the remote management?

Netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group=remote administration new enable=yes

i am running the remote tools on a vista sp1 laptop and the hyper v box is on its own workgroup

nostrasystems,

Could you post the error message that you see when you initially try to connect?

You will need to load this hotfix first: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952627/en-us

The following article goes through the steps on how to setup the vista and hyperv systems to work together: http://blogs.technet.com/jhoward/archive/2008/03/28/part-1-hyper-v-remote-management-you-do-not-have-the-requested-permission-to-complete-this-task-contact-the-administrator-of-the-authorization-policy-for-the-computer-computername.aspx

Also, are you using 2008 server with the HyperV role installed or the HyperV standalone product?

Let me know if that fixes the issue.

ASKER

hi i have that installed already and i was following this walkthrough

http://blogs.technet.com/jhoward/archive/2008/03/30/part-3-hyper-v-remote-management-you-do-not-have-the-requested-permission-to-complete-this-task-contact-the-administrator-of-the-authorization-policy-for-the-computer-computername.aspx

why is it so difficult to connect? its a pain, what if i have several hyper v boxes in clients and i need to connect do ni have to do this with every one
i keep getting access denied unable to establish communications
surely there is an easier way, if im only virtualising 3 virtual servers on one box would it make that much of a difference that i installed hyper v in full mode?

Would you care posting what you did with the hosts file to get this working?  I'm having the same issue and have modified the hosts file only to have the same error message.

Thanks.
