Would two server be able to communicate over a VPN if they have different DNS addresses?

If the VPN is configured correctly, the servers will be able to communicate across it using IP address. However, the DNS Servers which they are running lookups against must have the ability to resolve the remote server's name to its IP address if you want the servers to communicate using DNS names.
