How to restore an Exchange 2000 database to an Exchange 2007 server?

Hi,

one of my costumers transitioned from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007, with the old server still in place. Now he wants to uninstall the Exchange 2000 server. Unfortunately he frequently has to restore mailboxes from very old mailboxes and the question is if he can restore the old Exchange 2000 databases to the new Exchange 2007 server?

Environment: Exchange 2000 SP3, Exchange 2007 SP1 RU4, Symantec Backup Exec 11d with Information Store backups without GRT

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

you can't drop the database in to exchange 2007.

You could keep a virtual environment around to do the restores or use something like Ontrack PowerControls Software  (http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.co.uk/email-data-recovery/) or Quest Recovery Manager (http://www.quest.com/recovery-manager-for-exchange/)

These tools basically take the edb database file and allow you to "crack" it open and extract stuff with out needing exchange!
