Best way to replace XP Key on machines on domain

Basically before i came to our establishment, a desktop engineer rolled out workstations on various sites with the incorrect product key, and therefore before we can do anything with these machines would like to get this correct to be on the safe side. Unfortunatley due to the volume of workstation's out there and not easily identified so therefore looking for the best solution in which to replaced this over the domaim.

My thinking is pushing out a GPO with a registry key on it which will replace the key on these machine's but will also not affect the machines with the correct info.

Idea's would be welcome in which to make my decision,

Yours in advance

That info was useful , some of which i had.

Basically the point is that i can't identify these machines, need to push out domain wide which will sort this issue but not affect the machines that are properly licenced.

Using GPO with a registry edit seem the way forward, but has anyone dealt with a similiar problem and how they sorted their issue?

You could try to make a script that:
  • Scans the current product key and make a variable of it.
  • Then check the content of the variable with the desired key
  • if it's the same no action needed
  • if it's different execute a tool like produkey
(Or else you could run the tool on all computers, just to be sure all pc's have the correct product key)
