NT Backup - Network Drive has stopped responding when backing up Info Store

I am having a problem backing up our Exchange Info Store.
We backup our Exchange Info Store on a removable hard drive (F:\ drive) but it fails in a very early stage with an error saying "Network drive has stopped responding. Backup set aborted". I then tried to backup on the hard disk itself (D:\ drive) - it fails on the first attempt (same error) but it seems to be going through in the second attempt (its still running but its looking good).
My question is, why it says "Network drive" in the error log? I am only backing up on an external USB hard drive and it shows on My Computer that its a "local" drive. Beside, when I first tried to backup on the D:\ drive it shows the same error which is completely non-sense.
Any help appreciated.
