NT Backup - Network Drive has stopped responding when backing up Info Store

Dear experts,

I am having a problem backing up our Exchange Info Store.

We backup our Exchange Info Store on a removable hard drive (F:\ drive) but it fails in a very early stage with an error saying "Network drive has stopped responding. Backup set aborted". I then tried to backup on the hard disk itself (D:\ drive) - it fails on the first attempt (same error) but it seems to be going through in the second attempt (its still running but its looking good).

My question is, why it says "Network drive" in the error log? I am only backing up on an external USB hard drive and it shows on My Computer that its a "local" drive. Beside, when I first tried to backup on the D:\ drive it shows the same error which is completely non-sense.

Any help appreciated.

I had a few errors regarding the backup.

The errors with SOURCE "NT Backup" are not helpful as it asks you to consult the backup report. I have an error with SOURCE "ESE" stating the Backup has stopped with error 521.

Hope this is what you want.

Thanks.

Hi,
  • Please give me screenshots of error.
  • Please check the AV excludes all Exchange database and log files
  • Run isiinteg -fix -tests to see if things are fine on DB
Still without actual errors it will be diffcult to give solutions.
Thanks

Nitin,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

There is no error displayed when running the NTBackup. It just stops saying "Failed" and in the log file it says the Network Drive has stopped responding. The error code is retrieved from the Event viewer.

As I stated in my original question, that the NTBackup succeeded in the second attempt (I can confirm it is successful now as it finishes without problem). What I don't want is that when the weekly schedule kicks in (weekend) I had the same error again.

Hi,
If it succeeded second time, then voila most of my doubts are gone....and it is good. I was already thinking of next level. I must have missed that point.
Well, let it go on, it would not be an issue. Network - keep a close eye on it. Lets wait for weekly schedule or run backup again. Also give me EventViewer screenshot
Thanks

It failed again when I try to back it up onto the external hard disk, with the same error. I don't think external hard disk is classified as "Network Drive" or does it? Its a USB removable hard disk.

Anyway, as long as it can be backup on the D:\ drive I am not too bothered. At least I can manually move it onto the USB disk on Monday.

Thanks for your reply.

I will need Screenshot of EventViewer (dont worry just screenshot wil not give out server config or names, I am sensitive to your data)
I can only comment if I see that
