I have a an ACER TravelMate C200 notebook and the onboard monitor went bad. I've hooked up an external VGA monitor to it and it works fine except for when different users log into the laptop. It keeps reverting back to the notebook monitor which is so dim you can hardly see the items on the screen. How can I set it so that the default monitor is the external one?

Many laptops have a BIOS setting for default monitor, see if this is so for your system. Otherwise, there is normally a FN + F? key combo to switch between internal, external and both; go to "external"; I think the setting should stick unless your graphics drivers mess this up.
