how can i uninstall the microsft uaa function driver and reinstall it

I have recently upgraded xp to service pack 3 and had a problem with it recognizing my sound cards i/o mainly the mic. I quickly found a solution to the problem but think I may have uninstalled a needed microsft driver from the sound and game controler options under device manager tab. since the reboot i have no sound now. and no audio device is found but i check my sound card and all is functioning propelry and even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the card letting the wizzard handle the install and pointing to the drivers as well. So I tried to find microsft uaa driver and reinstall it i laso found one called microsoft hdm bus driver do i need this too. please help

Have you tried System File Checker?

If not, then use this command:

sfc /scannow

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

thanks for the information. I tried the scannow and it did its thing with no problems and have the same problem. the volume tab still says no audio device found, yet windows hardware installer recognizes the card and installs the drivers ive tried the card in another pc so i know its good i believe it has something to do with windows so i tried to repair windows using the cd and get as far as it asking me for an admin password I am not sure why as i have not setup a password is there a way around this??  also tried uninstalling service pack 3 through uninstaller in control panel and tried to install sp 2 got the message that a newer version is already present and closes. Is there a way to get a fresh install of sp3? windows update did not give me the option of downloading sp3 again so im wondering if sp 3 was actually deleted please help
