UpdatePanel error

Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.InvalidOperationException: Could not find UpdatePanel with ID 'ctl00_mainContent_ctl08_keywordUpdatePanel'. If it is being updated dynamically then it must be inside another UpdatePanel.

Is this a commonly known error?

What are some reasons / solutions for this error?

I noticed the ID of the UpdatePanel is 'ctl00_mainContent_ctl08_keywordUpdatePanel'.

Could [[ctl08 ]] be the reason there are problems?   Do I need to find-out what ctl08  is and explicitly give it an ID instead of letting ASP.NET name it?
