Have you tried downloading a different web browser? i myself very much liked IE7, but after all the reviews and tests, it just shows it's not great for speed/security.  I would recommend the new FireFox 3 version.  It is what I am using now, and has some great add-ons you can put into it. It is the safest web browser out there, and it is easy to use.  Try it out if you can't get IE to work.

There are alot of suggestions on fixing this, some being to check your DNS/IP settings in the network, etc.

Another being:

"You can stop the message by opening your internet explorer then going to TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS then SECURITY and then uncheck the ENABLE PROTECTED MODE options then close and open your IE7"

Need more info though, when did this start, OS, can you use another browser to browse? May be a spyware infestation. If you can, I'd recommend getting spybot search and destroy and adaware to remove/check for spyware.

Another fix I found is removing TCP/IP version 6, which you can in network settings, and use the general TCP/IP version 4.

No, it's a common error for IE7 unfortunatly. It's very hard to determine too what it can be, there are several 'fixes' but tons of problems relate to it. Some people have this issue with "ZoneAlarm" and must be solved by doing this:

"Two things, first make sure your windows firewall, and any other firewall that is installed other than ZA is turned off.

Second, make sure your DHCP and DNS seervers are in the trusted zone. There are pages on my site that will help you with that if you don't know how."

Where abouts specifically in INTERNET OPTIONS is the security section as i dont see the enable protected mode options.  Is it the security tab in internet options?

Where can i remove TCP/IP version 6 in network settings? Where do i go to get this please?

Thanks,

I'm using firefox now with no issues.

I updated my AVG anti virus and Lavasoft Ad-Aware programs and ran them with no issues detected.

However I still get the same error message in IE (res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm).  Does this mean I still have spyware or a virus on my machine? Is any other actions necessary?

Thanks.

Try going here in IE: Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN settings

You should have nothing checked. If anything is, uncheck it.
