Why do emails get unformatted?

Could anyone make it clear for me something that I would like to quite understand. We use to send formatted emails (html pages) to our customers, using clients like Outlook, Incredimail or other. These pages are resident at our web server or even at one of our local network disks or desktops.

The customers who receive it, normally see those emails well formatted, exactly as we send them. But as soon as they forward them or reply to those emails, they got quite unformatted.

. Why?

. Is there any way to avoid it? What should be done?

Thanks a lot.

It is the Forwarding that removes the format.

Most people (companies)  do not want to waste bandwidth and clutter their servers with unnecessary pretty pictures or junk and force their emails out as plain text.  There is nothing you can do if their mail servers are set up that way.

Some email programs themselves even remove formatting if that is how the user has it set up.

and some make a complete mess of it like Lotus Notes

Your best bet is to make a nice text based one with a link to the complete newsletter on a web server
