HP LJ P3005 loses functionality with 64-bit Vista

A user has a vista pc running with a 64-bit OS.  After a week of being installed, it wont respond.  If the printer is powered off after a print job, and then powered on for another print job, it's fine.  If it's powered on and left idle, it just stops responding.  I've tried it with xp, vista-32, and vista-64 bit drivers, both pcl5 and pcl6.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

I would try a cold reset, as follows:

Turn off, then back on again. When the memory count begins, press and hold the green check mark button. Continue holding it down until all three device control-panel lights flash once and then remain on. This might take up to 10 seconds. After the message SELECT LANGUAGE appears on the display, press the up or down buttons until COLD RESET is highlighted. Press the green button, and let it power up.

You will need to re-enter things like IP addresses and any other special settings.
