Windows Media Player 11 Can not open standalone VOB file

I want use windows media player 11 as default player for VOB file in XP.
But after i rename the file to .mpeg extension. The player can play it now.
Any idea how can i play the file without change file extension? Many thanks.

You have not mentioned what happens when you play the file with VOB extension.
Does Media Player give you some message or it opens in some other player?

Make sure media player is the DEFAULT player of VOB files.

To check it, right-click VOB file and click Properties.
You'll see the default player as:
"Opens With: Windows Media Player"

If it's not Media Player, use the Change button to change it.

I hope it will work.
