How difficult would it be to replace the usb ports with those from another D400?

I have a Dell Latitude D400 with a broken motherboard or a power supply problem, that will not turn on.  I want to buy a used D400 body and put the hard drive from my machine in it.  One I'm considering has usb ports that have been structurally damaged on the outside.  How difficult would it be to open my old one, and take out the two side usb ports and use them to replace the ones in the used machine I might buy?  I have the necessary tool kit to have managed to open the body, reseat the ram, remove and replace the hard drive and the like, but would it require soldering, or anything like that?

This is possible, but hard and does require soldering. You will have to open both notebooks to remove the ports from then. Then you will have to carefully solder it into the notebook.
If you are careful and your soldering skills are good there is a good chance this will work, but be aware that you can accidently mess something up and destroy the notebook in the process.
If you decide to do this back up your data just in case something bad does happen.
Good luck.

Thanks.  I got feedback from the hardware guy replacing my work computer that it would be quite difficult, so I decided not to bother.  Regards.
