Firstly its a USB drive there's no possibility of Firewire
Secondly I have ran checks on the drive and its all fine, also rebuilt the drive using drive warrior
Thirdly i would like to do that but i can as i don't have enough space on the mac for all the data so i can wipe the drive
Thanks

You have to unmount all the "virtual volumes/drives" you have on the whole physical disk first before trying to delete a partition on that drive.
Now I hope you know by partition you mean a disk slice, you you actually repartition the disk, or remove it's partition table you loose all 3 of them.
Your best choice is to erase or reformat, that particular "volume" or "virtual disk" not delete the partition table on that drive.
Unless of course this is what you wanted to do in the first place.

If you're trying to change the volume type say from "OS X Journaled" to "UNIX" - simply erase/re-format that volume.

Maybe there is file or partition corruption issues going on. Try doing a disk check with disk utility, then
deleting the partition.
or
If you have data that you don't want to loose on any of the partitions, make a copy of that data and write zeros to the drive with disk utility, then re-partition it the way you want it and copy the data back.
