Messenger doesn't save chat history on reboot

I am having this problem since a few years on several computers with different versions of Windows Live Messenger (using Windows XP or Vista).

When I configure Messenger to save the chat history (and also to display a part of it in the chat window), and restart the computer .. it sometimes won't save the chat history of that session (when there are still chat windows open).

I'm not sure what I can do about this, so I hope to get some useful suggestions!

Thanks in advance,
Kind regards,

Matthias Vance

If MSN doesn't close properly then the log is lost. To ensure that you do save the log make sure you close all the MSN windows before logging out and then shutting down.

Hmm, I definitely need an easier way to do this. I guess I have to write some program that closes all IM windows before rebooting. Leaving this question open for 2 days in order to give experts a chance to add additional information.
