How do I run a DOS program within VMWare?

I have a database program running under Windows 3.11.

How do I get this DOS program to run under VMWare?  What module do I need to install to allow me to run DOS programs?

DOS is a valid VM for VMware. I have DOS disks from a long time back, started up VMware, created a DOS machine and installed DOS.  If you have the Windows 3.11 disks, you can probably achieve the same goal by creating a Windows 3.11 machine and installing that.   .... T

Start VMware and create a new Virtual Machine. When it asks what kind, specifiy MS DOS (or Windows 3.1). Then provide the startup disks from either OS, and VMware will create the machine. Then run it like you would any computer. Once you run it, you can configure your autoexec.bat and config.sys and then install your database program in the virtual machine.

The trick is not to look at it as a VM, but to see it as its own system.
