Classified Adverts web script similar to free cycle and other exchange item groups

I am looking to create a small, free "item exchange" website for a local community area - similar in idea to Freecycle. I do not want to go down the Yahoo! Groups idea or similar as I would prefer to keep everything on a spare LAMP server I have.

I thought about using forum software (eg SMF) to create either item or postcode categories but thought this may not offer enough search ability or flexibility. I thought about using a script like PHP Auction but that seemed more geared to money exchange and bidding.....

So, anyone any ideas about a good way forward.

Thanks so much

I think the people behind that have developped a custom script and they may be willing open up the source to the right partner.

Thanks - I have had a look, seems quite basic but I think the general jist is there.

Anyone any other ideas of maybe an opensource script that could do similar?

I have notice that search by distance and maps are supported, something that Freecycle is not doing!
