Windows Media Player does not play .AVI files

My Windows Media Player play .avi files just with sound, but without image.
In the Windows Player/ Tools/ Files Type the .avi box is clicked.
Please what to do to play .avi files with sound & image?

It's probably a codec issue, i.e. the avi was created with a codec you don't have. Use VideoInspector (http://www.kcsoftwares.com/index.php?vtb ) or Gspot Codec appliance (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ )to see what codec was used to create the video, and then download and install it.

Or, you could download the free K-Lite Codec Pack and that will get you the most common ones.
