Server unresponsive upgrading company database

I have Windows Server 2008 and Sql 2005 SP2 installed on a new HP Proliant server with 2 logical driver.  The first drive is raid 1+0 and the second is raid 5 with one online spare.  I have MS Dynamics GP 10 SP 3 installed.  When attempting to ugrade my GP 9 databases to 10, it lockes up the server and forces me to reboot without finishing the upgrade.  The dynamics and system tables upgrade without error.  It looks up when trying to upgrade the company tables.  I have deleted and recreated the array and reinstalled the OS and Dynamics GP.  I do notice that the private working set for sqlservr.exe continues to go up during the process.  I have seen it reach 800,000K+ before it locks up.  Not sure if that is normal or not.  Any help would be great.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Check that the DBOWNER of each database is 'DYNSA'

it is.

Have you applied GP SP3 to GP prior to running GP Utilities?

If yes:  Uninstall GP, delete the code folder, then reinstall GP 10.0 from CD and attempt the upgrade without the SP3 installed.   Apply the SP after the upgrade if it completes.

Also tell me what SP the GP 9 install was on?   Have you followed the instructions for applying the correct 9.0 SP to GP prior to upgrading to 10.0?
XTADMINAuthor Commented:
GP9 is on SP3.   I'm pretty sure that's good for GP 10.  Yes, SP3 for GP 10 was installed prior to running GP Utilities.  I can reinstall and try without the SP.

We're good.  GP 9 is at 9.00.0314.  GP SP3 should be fine since it says 9.00.0314 >> 10.0 Service Pack 1 or later.
James GlaubigerCo-FounderCommented:
I would still try upgrading to SP1 then and see if you get the same issue.
XTADMINAuthor Commented:
isn't GP sp2 required for server 2008?
James GlaubigerCo-FounderCommented:
Yes, that is correct.   Try with sp2.
XTADMINAuthor Commented:
When I originally tried this upgrade it was using GP sp2.  Now that SP 3 is out I thought that might sure couldn't hurt at this point.
James GlaubigerCo-FounderCommented:
Please follow the below instructions to create a DEXSQL log file of the upgrade so that we can review what is actually happening.  Let me know if you have any more questions about this before you start.
1. Open the Dex.ini file. By default, this file is in the following location, depending on the version that you are running:" Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\Data
" Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP
" Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains 8.0:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions\Great Plains
2. Locate the following statements in the Dex.ini file:
3. If the statements are currently set to FALSE, change the statements to TRUE, as follows:
4. Start Microsoft Dynamics GP. If Microsoft Dynamics GP is already started, exit Microsoft Dynamics GP, and then restart it.
5. Re-create the scenario in which you received the error message. Stop before you receive the error message.
6. In Windows Explorer, open the Microsoft Dynamics GP application folder that you opened in step 1. Locate the Dexsql.log file. Delete or rename this file.
If you do not see the Dexsql.log file, click View, and then click Refresh so that you can see the new file.
7. In Microsoft Dynamics GP, complete the final steps to re-create the error message. You now have a new Dexsql.log file in the Microsoft Dynamics GP application folder.
8. Open the Dex.ini file, and then reset the statements to FALSE or to the original settings.

I believe this problem is related to the server hardware configuration.  I will be getting a new server.  Thanks for your help.  Hopefully the upgrade will be successful on a new server since I have been able to duplicte it twice on other servers.
XTADMINAuthor Commented:
problem seems to be hardware specific
