Computer freezes when......

Why does my computer freeze, when I right click on any desktop icon??

does killing VERCLSID.EXE restores things to normal or killing explorer.exe and starting it again ?
if so, KB908531 update is the most likely problem.

Checking up for spyware and viruses software might also be good idea.

Verclsid.exe is not  listed in the processes. Re-starting does not remove problem!
I ran spybot and deleted trojans found and I scanned with anti-virus and deleted spyware and viruses.

It might have to do with the right click function. ??!!??

probably a corrupt OS, or malware
for corrupt OS, try running sfc /Scannow from the run box

Just for clarification, I had to repair the OS with the original Windows XP cd.
I had problems with sfc/scannow.  
Anyway it was a corrupted OS.
