Why won't a content web form not display its master page content

I have a master page with one content placeholder containing a table, a web part manager and a webpartzone with 4 linkbuttons inside the zone in that order. Now when I create a Web Content Form in VS 2008 to derive from that master page .... the form is created but is blank. I cannot see the master page in the background, only an empty content placeholder. When I run the application, the content page is blank. Any ideas ?

 Thanks in advance

If you put anything in the contentplacehoder of the master page, it will be replaced by the actual content page. If you need to display those table and other stuff, then put them outside the contenplaceholder.
