Exmerge Script to make monthly backups

I have an Exchange 2003 Server archiving all incoming and outgoing messages to a mailbox.  I would like to create an exmerge script to run once a month to archive all mail for the month period to a PST file called the date/month, as in JAN08, FEB08, etc.

Not sure where to start, looking for ideas and a framework to work with.

if you only want to "track" what does in and out of a mailbox, you could use journaling <http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997525.aspx>

The other thing to look at is why you would want to do this?  A normal full backup will have users mailbox details in and using the recovery storage group would let you restore a mailbox?

It's a lot of work to script exmerge, but very possible, just not sure it's the right thing to do

The idea is from a compliance framework for the client there needs to be a record of all incoming and outgoing mail.  The solution is not for recovery purposes only to be viewable and searchable if say for instance there was a lawsuit against the client

Ok I am already using journalling but what I want to do is have an exmerge script that pulls emails out of the mailbox based on a date range and file as a PST for that month to view later.
