One of the names to be added to the directory already exists in a different entry in the directory

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to change a common name in Lotus Notes 7.0 but getting the message
One of the names to be added to the directory already exists in a different entry in the directory.
When I serarch the Names.nsf I only get one name and that is the name of the person Im trying to change.

That I do is to use Domino Administrator and selecting the user then Rename - Change Common Name.
After the change I run AdminP and gets the error message above.

What Im I doing wrong?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Do you have more than one server ?

Perhaps the changes are being made on a server where this already succeeded ?

ANything in the Log.nsf relating to this ?

Is you names.nsf full text indexed ?

rebuild the index, and also do a fixup / compact when you can.

I hope this helps !

Thank you, sorry for late reply.
We have only one server, but there is a European address book that was causing the name change problem.
The log "told" me that.
I do not have access to make the change on the European address book, so I have to contact them for the change.

Hi SysExpert,
The log file did get me on the right track after I change the common name back to the original.
Thank you.
