FTP 530 Connection refused, unknown IP address.

Running IIS 6 on a windows server 2003 standard edition, i decided to try to connect to a running FTP server. Upon inspection of the server properties, all seemed to be in working order, but no matter what i did, i was met with the "530 Connection refused, unknown IP address."-error.

I noticed there were no questions or answers that were helpful to my specific problem, and none were readily avaliable via MS or even extensive googling.
The closest i could get to a satisfying answer was the webpage "Funny things computers say", which stated that this error message is lying through its teeth.

I did eventually solve this problem, by going through the following steps.
I have reversed the order, to spare people from taking the long way around like I did :P

In the IIS management console, open the properties for the non-working ftp-server and:
On the FTP Site tab, make sure the IP address is not set to (All Unassigned)
On the Directory Security tab, make sure your IP (as seen by the server) is granted access.
Make sure the correct ports are opened / forwarded in FW
Make sure user has 'Log on locally'-priviliges
      Use domain/computer specific user name (e.g. MYCOMPUTER\Administrator)
