Keyboard and mouse does not work

Hi experts,
I have a problem. Every once in awhile, when I start Windows, the task bar icons fails to load. That interestingly causes my keyboard and mouse not to work. For the mouse, clicking does not work. But I can move the cursor.

Any ideas why this is happening? Is it because of a virus or trojan or stuff like that? Or is XP just corrupted? I actually hoped the problem would be solved by updating windows from SP2 to SP3. Does not help. Oh yeah, they work in safe mode though. Could a process like Norton AV be causing the problem in normal mode? This is a recent problem.

I'm not sure what could be causing this, might be a trojan or virus in a file that is not loaded in safe mode.

you could try running Malewarebytes in safe mode to see if there are any trojans or maleware messing with your system.
you can download malewarebytes here:

Good luck
Download and run spybot

Alright, I will give it a try and get back here.
If using abolve solutions problem is not solved then try to restore your pc to previous date ( restore point -when it worked well ) ,if not then its a spyware or virus problem then repair your operating system.
ALso check with...Uninstall that Norron antivirus and try to reinstall or use AVG freeware antivirus application and check which process consumimg the resources ( cpu + memory).
