I am working with Solaris 8 and found that Nitf user is in a privileged group. I researched this account and cannot find any information on this account. Is this a built in account for Solaris?

this is not a system account. was there a previous system administrator or have you installed an application that needs such an account?

You might try using the last command to see if the user ever logged in, and is so, from where. Look at the account, what is its home directory? Look there for clues. Look for files owned by the user.
