was the printer plugged in?
if so, disconnect it, uninstall all printer software
then install again - only plug it in when asked for!

I did that! This printer has been installed and uninstalled several times.  Sometimes the software installs, the printer works, but the scanner tells me it is not installed.  This is an  all-in-one!
