Mail Server - MX Record Pointing - Details Required !!!

Hi,

I have one MS Exchange 2007 server and i wanted to configure email server as like www.gmail.com  (many servers & one common URL)

We have 2 ISP's now and soon we will add another 2more ISP's. Right now exchange server is on 1st link and i wanted to add exchange server on 2nd link too for standby.

once we get 4 ISP's, i need to add them also for standby connection for email server.  Basically end users should not aware of downtime and moving of links. (I don't want to change mail server url -ir-respective any ISP's.  (Mail server url shoule be ail.yourname.com)

Let me know how to do the settings !!!

Note: IMSS is running of before the exchange for smtp access. .

Primary URL:  mail.yourname.com

IP Address:

ISP1 - 1.2.3.4
ISP2 - 5.6.7.8
ISP3 - 9.10.11.12
ISP 4- 13.14.15.16

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,
Since you have identified the IP Address for IMSS server, when you will be changing the ISPs, make sure that MX has Primary and Secondary records for IP addresses as follows:
  • ISP1 - 1.2.3.4  -- Primary -- 10
    ISP2 - 5.6.7.8 -- Secondary 20
    ISP3 - 9.10.11.12 --- 30
    ISP 4- 13.14.15.16 ---- 40
for your domain.
This would take care of things, if first IP would be unavailable, then mails will go to next IP

Hi,
In the screenshot, see keep on adding the IP Address of the Servers in the Mail Server Text Box and Priority will be 10, 20, 30, 40
But is this the actual screenshot of your domain name?
Thanks

What is your domain name....well this screen is for subdomain.domain.com.
Also please ask your ISP to do it, they will take a minuite. Raise a NetworkSolution Support Ticket and ask them to add Secondary MX Entries.
Do not worry it is a simple entry, but without control I can't really helpl you how your ISP has designed their Control Panel
Cheers
