XP service pack 2 installltion failure error code 800b0100.

have Dell demension 8300 with a sata drive had serious registry problems.  decided to peform a installlation repair using Reinstallton CD that came with Dell system"Windows XP Professional including service pack 2"  System currently has Windows XP Professional service pack 3.
During installtion repair encounter error "The signature for Windows Professional Upgrade is invalid.  The error code 800b0100.  No signature was present in subject.  ***** Fatal error****   Setu;p failed to install catalogs.  This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information.

Unfortunately, the SP version of your Repair CD must needs match the SP of the installed system.
Which means: you cannot repair a SP3 installation with a SP2 disk.

Microsoft leaves it up to the users to create themselves the necessary media. In your case, this means you will have to use your SP2 CD, the SP 3 update file, and nlite (http://www.nliteos.com) in order to slipstream a usable SP3 install CD.
