Using Software RAID in SBS 2003

I am installing SBS 2003 on an old Eseries IBM x305 Server that has no option for RAID. HOw do I set uo software RAID in SBS 2003 and is it recommended? I have always heard bad things about software RAID.....but have never tried it.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would recommend a hardware raid over a software raid. They are much more reliable and perform much better. You should be able to pick up a raid card that will work in your system for not too much.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hardware RAID is better for performance and generally better on reliability.  But software RAID is better than no RAID at all on a server.

You would simply install Server, then, using disk management, on the second UNFORMATTED, UNPARTITIONED disk, you would right click and select Add Mirror (if memory serves).
