I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

MySql is a database server. It alone does not have provisions for sending emails. You must use a technology other than MySql to send the email.

MySql is capable of writing records to tables, or even writing data to a text file on the server, but it cannot send emails. You would need to have some other program on the server watching for the changes and sending the emails.
