Windows Server 2003 explorer hangs on large file transfer

Windows server 2003 setup as (DC and SQL2005 mirror) is intermittently stalling transferring large files. Explorer takes several minutes to respond to basic requests and 5 minute file copies take 20minutes. Have ghosted OS to 3 HDs and run on 2 identical metal boxes. Tried different NICs. Ran chkdsk many times. All hardware has been ruled out. Problem still exists when out of domain and SQL turned off. No antivirus software. SQL has speciallly configured SQL mirroring and we do not want to lose it, hence have not resorted to clean OS install. Any ideas?

See if you can find firmware and/or driver updates for NIC and other hardware.

No resolution was ever found. Reinstalled entire server OS from scratch.
